Richard Leftley is a pioneer in digital insurance and microinsurance with over 20 years of industry experience. He founded MicroEnsure in 2002 after leaving Benfield Greig (now Aon Benfield), where he worked as a reinsurance broker responsible for the African account covering the Middle East and South East Asia. Under his leadership, MicroEnsure grew to provide insurance to over 64 million people across 12 countries in Africa and Asia. In 2020, he co-founded MIC Global, which became a leading reinsurer underwriting products globally via Lloyd's Syndicate 5183 and MIC Re in Anguilla. In 2022, he founded Wavu Limited as an independent consultancy providing services to the World Bank Group and serving as a non-executive director for insurtechs. He serves on the steering committee of the ILO Micro Insurance Innovation Fund.
